Liverpool can’t ignore Karim Benzema message to Real Madrid teammate after ‘weakness’ exposed

Karim Benzema, who scored three goals across two games against Liverpool earlier this year, is set to leave Real Madrid, but the Reds can’t ignore his message.

Liverpool fans may have breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday when Real Madrid confirmed Karim Benzema is set to leave the club this summer.

Los Blancos confirmed the news in a statement following days of speculation regarding the French international’s future. Benzema has enjoyed his meetings with Liverpool over the years, and came out victorious once again earlier this year after scoring three goals across both legs of Real’s 6-2 win in the round-of-16.

Following the second leg at the Bernabéu, Benzema admitted what he told Eduardo Camavinga in an attempt to open the game up for the reigning European champions.

“I told Camavinga that the two Liverpool center-backs open up a lot. As it happened in the goal. We are very happy with him. He is very young but very good,” Benzema said (via the ECHO).

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté were identified as a possible ‘weakness’ for Real Madrid to exploit and so it proved, with the Real Madrid goal on the night coming from Camavinga playing a low ball into Benzema and Liverpool being unable to react.

In the BT Sport studio following the game, Rio Ferdinand analyzed Liverpool’s defensive failings in Madrid, and especially Trent Alexander-Arnold.
