Dengue Fever Outbreak in Mauritius

Health Alert: Dengue Fever Notice for Mauritius – U.S. Embassy Port Louis, Mauritius

Mauritius’ Ministry of Health is monitoring an outbreak of the dengue virus, due to an increase in cases throughout the island.  Over the last three months, a few hundred cases of dengue have been reported in Mauritius.  Please follow the public guidance of local health authorities via the local media.

A 24-hour hotline (8924 for Mauritius and 86099 for Rodrigues) has been put in place for anyone wishing to inquire about dengue or report a suspected case of dengue.

Rapid Antigen tests are readily available in all health facilities.

The Mauritius’ Ministry of Health has put in place a national protocol on dengue management and is continuing their awareness campaign.

Actions to Take:

  • Visit the CDC Traveler’s Health Page for Mauritius.
  • Visit the CDC page on Dengue Fever for symptoms, treatment, and for preventative advice on nets, repellants, and reducing mosquito habitats near your home.
  • Monitor and follow the Mauritius public health announcements via local media.
  • Seek medical treatment if experiencing any warning signs or any symptoms that cause you concern.
  • Check with your medical insurance on options should you fall ill while in Mauritius.
